PERSONAL HYGIENE ISSUES - ACCESSORIES ( ALEX )

A food handler refers to anyone who handles or prepares food and beverage such as chefs, sous chefs, cooks, kitchen assistants or even food stall assistants as they are all involved in food preparation. There are many types of contamination such as physical, chemical, or even environmental contamination.

Physical contamination is when food is mixed with an object at any stage of production and these items that are mixed in could possibly injure someone or may even carry harmful bacteria that causes food-borne illnesses. If this really happens at a restaurant or eateries, it will make them look very unprofessional.

Food handlers are responsible to ensure that contaminants are not introduced to food when the food is prepared. Accessories worn by food handlers are considered physical contaminants when preparing food which can cause serious food contamination or even food poisoning. Accessories such as earrings, ear studs, ear sticks and also rings should not be worn when preparing food as they may drop unintentionally and get mixed in the food when food is being prepared.

That is why, not wearing accessories like necklace, earrings, ear studs and also rings to the kitchen or when handling any kinds of food is a very good practice of personal hygiene. It is very important to let your employee (if you own a restaurant or any type of food business) know that wearing accessories to the kitchen is wrong and introducing them to a personal hygiene course or class might be a good idea.

  1. A very good write up in regard to ear studs dropping/mixing accidentally into food during preparation. From this, I have learnt that we shouldn't compromise food safety such as unwanted objects mention in the post.

Thank you Iswan! I hope this post is somewhat helpful and informative for you :-)
To sum up what I've said above in the post, it is really very important to have a good personal hygiene as there has been some serious case regarding this. Do not wear any accessories into the kitchen or preparing food to minimize the chance of the accessories dropping into the food and getting mixed up causing physical hazards (injuries or even food poisoning)
